Conjectures for large transcendence degree

چکیده

We state two conjectures, which together would yield strong results of algebraic independence related to Schanuel’s Conjecture. Partial results on these conjectures are also discussed. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification: 11J82, 11J85.

An Introduction to Irrationality and Transcendence Methods. 5 Conjectures and Open Problems 5.1 Schanuel's Conjecture and Some Consequences

We already met a number of open problems in these notes, in particular in § 1.1.1. We collect further conjectures in this field, but this is only a very partial list of questions which deserve to be investigated further. Part of this section if from [W 2004], especially § 3. When K is a field and k a subfield, we denote by trdegkK the transcendence degree of the extension K/k. In the case k = Q...

Free Symmetric and Unitary Pairs in Division Rings with Involution

Let D be a division ring with an involution and characteristic different from 2. Then, up to a few exceptions, D contains a free pair of symmetric elements provided that (a) it is finite-dimensional and the center has a finite sufficiently large transcendence degree over the prime field, or (b) the center is uncountable, but not algebraically closed in D. Under conditions (a), if the involution...

Open Diophantine Problems

Diophantine Analysis is a very active domain of mathematical research where one finds more conjectures than results. We collect here a number of open questions concerning Diophantine equations (including Pillai’s Conjectures), Diophantine approximation (featuring the abc Conjecture) and transcendental number theory (with, for instance, Schanuel’s Conjecture). Some questions related to Mahler’s ...

Hilbert’s fourteenth problem over finite fields, and a conjecture on the cone of curves

Hilbert’s fourteenth problem asks whether the ring of invariants of any representation of a linear algebraic group is finitely generated over the base field. Nagata gave the first counterexample, using a representation of (Ga) 13, where Ga denotes the additive group [22]. In his example, the representation is defined over a field of large transcendence degree over the prime field (of any charac...

The Arithmetic and Geometry of Elliptic Surfaces

We survey some aspects of the theory of elliptic surfaces and give some results aimed at determining the Picard number of such a surface. For the surfaces considered, this will be equivalent to determining the Mordell-Weil rank of an elliptic curve defined over a function field in one variable. An interesting conjecture concerning Galois actions on the relative de Rham cohomology of these surfa...
